Montgomery County Breakfast: Exploring Life Sciences

Join us at the Montgomery County Breakfast, which kicks-off of our annual County Breakfast Conversations series, on Tuesday, September 22, 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the Talamore County Club in Ambler.

The Montgomery County Breakfast, co-sponsored by DeVry University, will explore how the life sciences industry is driving local economic development and accelerating regional growth.

Greater Philadelphia is a major center for the life sciences due to its diverse mix of established pharma, university research infrastructure, world-renowned teaching hospitals, emerging startups, and strong support network for entrepreneurs. In fact, 15% of all economic activity and one out of every six jobs in the region can be traced back to life sciences. A recent study by the Milken Institute ranked the region third nationally in biosciences and second nationally in its number of life sciences workers.

Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the dialogue as key Montgomery County players discuss initiatives that support the development and commercialization of life sciences products and their involvement in the industry. The panel discussion, moderated by WHYY's Tracey Matisak, will feature Hon. James R. Matthews, Chairman, Montgomery County Commissioners; Steve Mongiardo, Senior Director of Facilities Management, West Point Facility, Merck & Co., Inc.; and Barbara S. Schilberg, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, BioAdvance.

Select Greater Philadelphia will provide an update on its progress as it relates to the life sciences sector in our region. Attendees will also have an opportunity to meet new Chamber President and CEO, Rob Wonderling.

In its 6th year, County Breakfast Conversations is visiting eight counties throughout northern Delaware, southern New Jersey, and southeastern Pennsylvania to explore how Greater Philadelphia's leading industry sectors are changing where we live and work and making our region an attractive, competitive place to do business.

The next County Breakfast will take place in New Castle County on October 29.

There is no attendance charge for Chamber members.

The County Breakfast Conversations are held in partnership with Select Greater Philadelphia and sponsored by Wachovia with technology support from IMS Audio Visual.
