Xerox Sponsorship and Volunteerism Support Local Philadelphia Community Activities

Submitted by: Michael Guerin, Manager of Marketing Operations, Xerox Corporation, Greater Philadelphia

Social responsibility and corporate citizenship have been ingrained in the Xerox culture since its earliest days as a company – both at the local and national levels. The Greater Philadelphia business unit upholds this core value by giving back to its community with sponsoring and participating in local events.

Xerox recently sponsored the “Run Wild” Lehigh Valley Zoo 5K. The local organization demonstrates leadership in the cultural, scientific and conservation community by creating an enlightening wildlife experience for all ages. More than 20 Xerox employees and their family members volunteered and participated at the event on Aug. 30. The Xerox team also donated printing for flyers to advertise the event.

Greater Philadelphia employees are also planning to volunteer at Feast of Justice, a local food cupboard. Feast of Justice provides emergency food for needy families and school supplies for school aged children living in Northeast Philadelphia. In the 2009 fiscal year, the food cupboard provided 8218 bags of food, feeding 12,182 people. They host a special fellowship once a month called “Third Thursday Breakfast” where members of the community share a full meal together. Eight Xerox employees are volunteering at this month’s breakfast on Sept. 15 to set up, cook and serve food.

At a national level, Xerox has an ongoing program to show the country’s appreciation to the hundreds of thousands of troops stationed overseas, letting citizens nationwide send messages of support from home. Through the Let’s Say Thanks program, postcards designed by children from across the country are available at www.LetsSayThanks.com for people to select their favorite and write a personalized message to the troops. Xerox prints the cards on its paper and equipment, and mails them in care packages to deployed troops through military support organization Give2TheTroops®. More than 20 million thank you messages have been submitted through this program to date.
