Two Upcoming YPN Events and New YPN Board Members
Young Professionals Network has two exciting events in September that will allow members to get the most out of their networking skills.
First, join us for what promises to be a lively night of networking as we kick off the 2008-2009 YPN year at the Hard Rock Café in Center City Philadelphia. The event, which will feature speaker Mark Schweiker, President & CEO of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, will take place on September 17 at 6:00 p.m.
Schweiker will provide an overview of the Chamber’s initiatives for the upcoming year and discuss ways in which YPN members can get involved. We will also welcome the 2008-2009 YPN Chair Kevin Cafferky, Controller at Philadelphia OIC, and acknowledge outgoing Chair Anne Madonia, all while experiencing the classic American flavors, lively spirits and legendary sounds of the Hard Rock Café.
Then, learn more about strategic networking methods at a professional development forum on Wednesday, September 22 at 6:00 p.m. on the 44th floor of the Independence Blue Cross building in Center City.
The discussion, which will host speaker Molly D. Shepard, President and CEO of the Leader’s Edge, is the first of several skills-building seminars that YPN and Leader’s Edge/Leader’s By Design will provide for young professionals. Shepard will introduce the concept of strategic networking and explain how making the right contacts can help individuals become more successful both personally and professionally. Specific topics that will be covered in the discussion include:
- Assessing your current network internally and externally
- Identifying new contacts/areas for expanding your network
- Learning how to make connections
- Developing your elevator speech
- Getting on community boards
The Leader’s Edge/Leader’s By Design is an international leadership and development firm dedicated to the development and advancement of high-powered individuals. Through the programs’ custom programs, leaders are able to refine their communication, networking, political awareness and strategic thinking skills in order to capitalize on potential opportunities and create successful results.
Both YPN events are presented in partnership with Kaplan, Saint Joseph’s University Haub School of Business, TD Banknorth and uwishunu.com. Independence Blue Cross is the host sponsor of the professional development seminar.
