March of Dimes Champions the Needs of Moms and Babies

Can you imagine a day when all babies are born healthy? We can. With your support the March of Dimes will continue to champion the needs of newborns.
The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit health organization that champions the needs of moms and babies in your community and across the nation. We funded the research that lead to the prevention of polio. And we haven’t stopped defending the health of babies since. From pioneering genetic research to promoting folic acid to fighting for lifesaving newborn screening, the March of Dimes continues to do all we can to make sure every baby is born healthy.
Since the organization was established in 1938, March of Dimes work has led to discoveries that shape today’s standards of a healthy pregnancy. March of Dimes research helped to link alcohol consumption in pregnancy to birth defects, and our outreach programs are making women aware of the importance of consuming folic acid to help prevent neural tube defects. Our advocates have helped pass new laws to expand state newborn screening programs to diagnose and treat life-threatening birth defects in time for effective treatment.
March for Babies, formerly known as WalkAmerica, is the March of Dimes premier fundraising event. The original walking fundraiser, first held in 1970, it is the model countless other organizations follow to help raise money. We have renamed our largest event to leave no question as to why we walk - for the health of all babies.
The money raised through March for Babies, and other March of Dimes fundraising events, supports lifesaving research, community services, education and advocacy that helps babies get a healthy start right here in Philadelphia. 11 research projects in Pennsylvania are currently receiving $2,332,644 thanks to individuals and corporations that participate with the March of Dimes.
