Chair of the British Wind Energy Association to Address the International Business Community in Philadelphia

Chair of the British Wind Energy Association and UK CEO of Airtricity Adam Bruce will address the international business community in Philadelphia at the Holiday Luncheon of the British American Business Council (BABC) on Friday, December 7, 12 noon at the Racquet Club of Philadelphia. Mr. Bruce will discuss the future of renewable energy, "Following Carnegie: Joining Scotland and the USA in the Age of Renewables".

Adam Bruce is a highly respected figure in the UK Public Policy sector. He joined Airtricity in 2006 from the UK law firm McGrigors, where he spent a decade working with government in London, Brussels and Edinburgh. Adam chaired the Scottish public affairs professional body for three years, served as a member of the Arbuthnott Commission and is a board member of the Westminster Forum, the London based policy networking group. He was elected Chair of the British Wind Energy Association in June, 2007.

During his visit to Philadelphia, Mr. Bruce will discuss how the political, macro-economic and business case for renewable energy has continued to grow and develop over the past years. Concerns surrounding security of energy supply have increased and the debate with respect to the reality of climate change and increasing average global temperatures has been effectively concluded. The result is an ever-increasing awareness and acceptance of the need for clean, sustainable and dependable sources of energy – in short, for Renewable Energy.

“Bearing in mind the intense competition that exists in acquiring turbines at a time of world shortage," said Airtricity UK Chief Adam Bruce, "we are delighted to have secured capacity to deliver a further 500 MW of renewable energy for our 2008 build program in the USA.

Since May of 2006 Mr. Bruce has been the UK Chief Executive of Airtricity, a global renewable energy company developing and operating wind farms across Europe and North America. The company has 13 wind farms in operation throughout USA, Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland resulting in 455MW. In addition, 11 wind farms totalling over 600MW are under construction with a global pipeline in excess of 10,000MW. The company has a supply business in Ireland with 35,000 customers. The company has almost 400 employees, a turnover of $230m and has been most recently valued at $1.6bn. In the U.S., Airtricity has a pipeline of 4,500 MW under way in Texas, New York, Pennsylvania, Colorado, and New Mexico with an ambitious plan for 2008 and beyond, including advanced plans to develop in the California market.

The British American Business Council (BABC) - an affiliate of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce - in partnership with Scottish Development International, British Airways, and Exelon Power Team, will bring together members of the international business community to this unique transatlantic business luncheon.

The cost is $85 for BABC Members and $ 100 for non-members. To register, please contact Ricardo Maldonado at 215-790-3627 or rmaldonado@greaterphilachamber.com. Your payment includes a chance to win two round trip tickets, Philadelphia to London courtesy of British Airways.
