Executive Policy Summary: Public-Private Partnerships and the FAA’s Airspace Redesign Plan

Addressing the Transportation Funding Crisis through Public Private Partnerships

Because Pennsylvania's transportation infrastructure is in desperate need of additional funding, the Chamber has encouraged Gov. Rendell to explore the use of Public Private Partnerships, or P3s.

P3s use private capital to manage and operate existing roadways. Using this financing option could provide opportunity to accelerate construction of new roadways, address mass transit funding, or reduce the need for new taxes to maintain roads and bridges, Examining P3s was also recommended by the Governor's Transportation Funding and Reform Commission.

Chamber Supports FAA Airspace Redesign

Last week the FAA released its preferred plan to redesign airspace over the Northeast region. The plan includes a proposal to reroute some flights departing from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL).

The Chamber supports the FAA's efforts to improve efficiency at PHL as a means of keeping the region competitive. We also are committed to working with the FAA and regional stakeholders to address concerns about mitigating noise and air pollution as a result of the redesign.
